Peak Performance: Data-Driven Insights for a Smarter Auckland
Blue Barn was proud to support the Auckland Plan 2050 and the National Land Transport Programme (NLTP) with a deep-dive analysis of AM and PM peak travel patterns across the entire city.
By mapping speed and travel time data across Auckland’s transport network, we delivered powerful insights into peak demand — helping shape smarter investment decisions through the NLTP’s Investment Prioritisation Method (IPM).
Our work also fed directly into the Auckland Network Operating Plan (ANOP 21–24), helping ensure future planning aligns with policy goals and supports a more connected, sustainable Auckland.
Better data. Better decisions. Better outcomes.
Smart Modelling, Smarter Investment
Blue Barn delivered a detailed cost analysis for integrating agent-based modelling into the Waikato Regional Transport Model (WRTM) — paving the way for more dynamic, data-driven transport planning.
Using Monte Carlo simulation, we provided a 90% confidence interval for project costs, giving stakeholders a clear view of potential financial outcomes. By building on existing national modelling work, we unlocked major cost efficiencies and identified further opportunities for savings across key components.
The result? A robust, future-ready modelling framework that delivers value from day one — and supports smarter, more strategic investment in regional transport planning.
Laying the Groundwork for Smarter Transport in Waikato
Blue Barn led a comprehensive feasibility study to assess the implementation of a Four-Step Transportation Model tailored to the Waikato region’s unique travel patterns.
Our team explored every layer — from trip generation and distribution to mode choice and route assignment — delivering detailed analysis and clear recommendations. We also ensured alignment with regional tools like the Waikato Integrated Scenario Explorer (WISE), focusing on practical, future-proof solutions.
The result? A solid foundation for a region-specific model that supports better decisions, smarter planning, and more efficient movement across the Waikato.
