Principal Project Delivery Engineer - Structures

JOB DESCRIPTION

Our Auckland office is looking for an experienced Principal Structural Engineer with solid project management background to join our Seismic and Structures team. You will have a pivotal role within the team and be responsible to the Director for the overall performance of the Structural Team’s projects.

You will manage a portfolio of work with a collection of clients, taking responsibility for client relationships as well as the project management, design, documentation, and delivery of the projects. You will develop relationships with Client’s representatives, Architects, and other key collaborators as required by the project.

Along with being responsible for the technical quality on projects that you lead, you will also check the accuracy of the work from other team members.  You will be assisted in this by the Director and Technical Lead for the Structures team. 

You will carry out the role of an internal Project Manager or Project Director on projects, promoting best practice and adhering to Blue Barn’s internal management systems.

You will have a team reporting to you and this role will involve mentoring and development of junior members of the team.

This role will see you:

  • Lead and manage the design and commercial management of projects
  • Supervise a team of design engineers and seismic modelling engineers
  • Develop design philosophy/fundamentals and demonstrate all-round technical competence
  • Be responsible for the quality, accuracy and timely completion of your own work
  • Review and take responsibility for deliverables produced by Engineers & Technicians
  • Have knowledge of concept design, detailed design, construction techniques, procurement routes, risk assessment and claim assessment
  • Demonstrate strong management experience of scope creep and variation orders
  • Contribute to the development of fee proposals
  • Manage project resources/programme
  • Take a lead role in design team/site meetings
  • Lead and manage the day-to-day correspondence with design team/contractor.
  • Responsible for development and production of drawings/calculations/specifications/reports
  • Demonstrate an ability for delivery in the digital engineering environment.
  • Build project teams from internal and external resources
