Your most interesting projects / accomplishments?

Most of my professional working career in New Zealand has involved working with Local Authority clients. I have undertaken several interesting projects but the one that stands out for me is the AT Metro Double Decker Bus Network Mitigation for Manukau Road and Northern Express 2 Routes. I was the consultant project manager for Auckland Transport and was responsible for the investigation, scheme, detailed design and construction of mitigation measures. The project overall ran for a period of three years.  As part of investigation and design of various mitigation measures along the Double Decker Route, I had to undertake multiple rounds of consultation and manage the expectations of multiple internal AT and external parties including utility companies, Local Boards and the Business Associations. The Project team I managed involved designers, traffic engineers, structural engineers, environmental planners and arborists. I was the client representative and liaised with the Auckland Transport team consisting of AT Project Manager, principal planner, property specialist, AT Metro and consultation manager. I ensured that the tight timeframes associated with delivery of the route were managed through various internal activities being carried out concurrently and external parties being project managed on a day to day basis.  The project was highly successful and delivered to the strict timelines, budget and quality required.  The project was met with high praise from the AT client.

What you love most about your job?

I love working with both internal and external clients and ensuring their needs are understood and delivered to the standards required. I like the interaction with my team members and ensuring they will be able to move forward in their professional careers through training and work experience. I enjoy bidding for work and seeing projects that I have investigated and designed being built out on the network.

Why you followed this career path?

I got into engineering because of my love for physics and maths during my student days and the fact that engineering allows you to improve people’s lives through numerous ways.  It also helped that two of my Uncles and my brother are all Civil Engineers.

Your interests outside of work?

Outside of work I enjoy spending quality time with the family, playing badminton, following cricket around the world and reading books usually detective stories.

What or who motivates you?

Client satisfaction on delivering what they need.

Who do you love to work with?

I love working with people who are friendly and warm and show empathy and understanding to those around them.
